About
Jeffrey Huxmann
Cofounder & Senior Producer
Born in Madison,
Wisconsin, Jeff was raised near a city park. Here he learned
to walk while attempting to approach the park's Mallard
ducks in the hope of being able to pet one on the
back.
Today he's is still
chasing birds.
Digital video camera in hand, Jeff has been filming flocks
of endangered Whooping Cranes since 2001. It was during that
year that Jeff began volunteering months of his time to
document the historic reintroduction of the Whooping Crane
to the eastern half of North America. The project, conducted
by the Whooping Crane Eastern Partnership, (WCEP) uses
ultralight aircraft and costumed humans to teach young
cranes to migrate from Wisconsin to Florida. Jeff's initial
volunteer efforts paid off when he was hired by WCEP to
produce "Bringing
Back the Cranes."
Prior to his work with
cranes and planes, Jeff directed his energy toward the
formation of the Chlorine-free Paper Consortium, in
cooperation with the National Wildlife Federation. This
program worked side-by-side with industry and consumers to
reduce cancer-causing pollution emitted by pulp and paper
mills.
"During my time as an
advocate with the Consortium, I learned many important
concepts regarding environmental education. I realized that
the communication of a clear message to many people is very
difficult on the limited budgets of most environmental
organizations. I had the desire to extend my message, all I
lacked was the means. It was then that SolTerra Cofounder,
Bob Cornett helped me "discover" video. As the saying goes,
"A picture is worth a thousand words". I believe a video,
therefore, is worth a million words.
Our video production
business is meant first and foremost to allow worthy causes,
of many genres, to spread their word effectively to a mass
audience.
"Education is
imperative to bringing about a better world. Unfortunately,
time is running out to reverse some of humans' negative
impacts on Earth. The conservation of animals, plants,
habitats, and even human cultures may be at stake. That is
why SolTerra Communications exists. We pride ourselves on
providing powerful but cost-effective video messages"
